Adopt A Stream Foundation
Focusing on habitat restoration and environmental education, the Adopt-A-Stream Program “teaches people to become stewards of their watersheds”. Originally focusing on increasing awareness of the importance of the 3,000 miles of creeks, streams and rivers and the fish that inhabit them in Snohomish County, the foundation now helps those seeking to restore to health those waterways damaged by people or nature throughout the Sound.

Hood Canal Environmental Council
An organization of people who cherish Hood Canal as a unique spot in Puget Sound with its unusual marine, mountain, and forest scenery, its many relatively pristine watersheds and its clean marine water, the Hood Canal Environmental Council relies on the work of concerned volunteers like you to support its goals.

The Land/Water Stewardship Program
Supporting adult volunteers who are interested in teaching others about the basics of watersheds, wetlands, streams, water quality, forestry, native plants, wildlife and other natural resource topics, Metro’s Land/Water Stewardship Program will help give you the skills to lead your community in natural resource management.

The Mountaineers
To know the Puget Sound, is to love the Puget Sound. As the premier Northwest outdoor recreation club, dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and protection of natural areas, the Mountaineers will get you out into the Puget Sound region.

The Nature Conservancy
Using a variety of strategies from purchasing land to trading development rights, the Washington Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, together with members, like you, and conservation partners, has protected nearly 400,000 acres of critical natural lands.

North Cascades Institute
From the tidewater of Puget Sound to ancient forests and alpine glaciers, the North Cascades Institute is the Northwest’s premier environmental education organization focusing on natural and cultural history. Check out their volunteer stewardship programs as a way to get involved.

Northwest Straits Commission
Wondering how to put your diving skills to work? The Derelict Fishing Gear project of the Northwest Straits Commission may be the answer. One of its many projects, the Commission provides a way for local, tribal, state and community representatives to work together to protect vital marine resources.

Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve
From research to understand ecological processes operating in Puget Sound to on-site educational programs offered to schools and civic groups, Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve offers volunteers lots of avenues to share their expertise.

People for Puget Sound
People For Puget Sound is a citizens’ group working to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits through education and action. If you share their vision of a clean and healthy Sound, teeming with fish and wildlife, cared for by people who live here, there’s a place for you on their team.

Port Townsend Marine Science Center
Offering a wide variety of educational programs, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center’s mission is to foster respect for the natural world and encourage environmental stewardship through interactive exhibits for the public, training and support of teachers and students, and scientific study of Puget Sound. Support their mission by becoming a volunteer.

Poulsbo Marine Science Center
The Poulsbo Marine Science Center, a multifaceted educational facility dedicated to the preservation of the northwest marine environment, works to increase understanding of the marine environment and sustain the health of waters in our community and the world at large. Volunteers are always welcome!

Protect the Peninsula’s Future
Rural areas of the Puget Sound Region face special challenges. Protect the Peninsula’s Future is dedicated to environmental protection to enhance the quality of life for present and future citizens of the North Olympic Peninsula.

Puget Soundkeeper Alliance
Enjoy spending your time on the water? The mission of the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance is to protect and preserve Puget Sound by tracking down and stopping the discharge of toxic pollutants into its waters.

The San Juan Preservation Trust
Island life is always a bit different than life on the mainland. The San Juan Preservation Trust is dedicated to helping people protect the wildlife, scenery, and the traditional way of life of the unique San Juan Islands through the preservation and careful use of land.

Sound Experience
Gain the unique sense of the Sound only available from the water’s surface by volunteering with Sound Experience, dedicated to protecting Puget Sound through education aboard the historic schooner, Adventuress.

Stream Team
Stream Team is your way of getting involved with your neighbors in protecting our valuable stream resources. Stream Team’s mission is to maintain and restore healthy streams by facilitating action and education projects, by fostering a community-wide sense of stream stewardship; and by providing an avenue for improved community access to government agencies and funding. Taking the long view, the Washington Environmental Council protects Washington’s environment and natural heritage for current and future generations. Find out about their Healthy Streams Campaign that focuses on restoring and protecting adequate water in rivers and streams to support healthy and abundant fish and wildlife.
